Raymond E Long, 98, Formerly of Wallingford and North Haven, CT, passed away on peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was the husband of the late Kathryn (Cass) Long. Born in Bridgeport, CT on July 22, 1919, the son of Edward and Evelyn Satchell Long, both of Bridgeport. He was a graduate of St. Augustine School and attended Central High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during World War II. He is survived by a son, Raymond L Long (Vicky), of Wallingford, and a daughter, Cynthia L Wright (Gregory), of Guilford; three Granddaughters, Jennifer Asbury (Dustin), Killingworth; Susan Wojtowicz (Richard), Hadley MA; and Rebecca Degnan (Mark), Haddam; and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Long of Stratford, and three sisters Virginia Glovna (Mike), Marion “Babe” Lemachko (Max), and Evelyn Long at age 1. Ray was associated with the food industry his entire life. In the early years with the Logan Bros., Co., then joined the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A & P) for 27 years (managing Boston Avenue in Bridgeport, Grand Avenue in Fair Haven, State Street in Hamden and Route 1/Cedar Street in Branford), as well as Pied Piper food stores of Clinton for one year. He served with the Davidson Company, a specialty food company, for 23 years. Ray was an original founder and CFO of the Connecticut Classics Junior Drum & Bugle Corp in East Haven in the 1960’s and was a race car enthusiast being a member of the Eastern Old Timers Race Car Club.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Saturday morning at 11:00 with the Rev. Timothy Meehan officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:00 until time of service. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
