Joan Ann Testa Onofrio, 81, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Mary Wade Home, New Haven with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late James V. Onofrio, Sr. Joan was born in New Haven on December 11, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Henry and Giovanna Ferrara Testa. She was a secretary for Colonial Business Forms, Inc. for many years until her retirement. Joan was an avid piano player, loved to sing in her church choir, was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Society and the North Haven Senior Center. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family whom she loved unconditionally, especially her grandchildren. Mother of James (Corie) Onofrio, Jr., Richard (Doris) Onofrio, Eric (Carla) Onofrio and Edward (Suzette) Onofrio. Sister of Geraldine Tommaselli. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a “Special Thank You” to all the nurses and staff at the Mary Wade Home and to the Franciscan Sisters for their compassionate care.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Monday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 57 Pond Hill Road, North Haven at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 pm.
