Elizabeth M. Gherardi Aranci, 104, of Wallingford, formerly of East Haven and Hamden for many years, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Americo Aranci. Elizabeth was born in New Haven on November 1, 1913 and was the daughter of the late Bonfiglio and Delfina Gondolfi Gherardi. She lived in the Centerville section of Hamden almost all her life. Fourteen years ago, she moved to The Village at Mariners Point in East Haven and last year she moved to Masonicare in Wallingford. Elizabeth loved to dance and travel with her husband, spending many winters with friends in Florida. During her life, she volunteered her time to the Civil Air Defense, Girl Scouts, Albie Booth Club, and the American Red Cross. She is survived by her daughter Carol Buongirno and her partner Colin Armour. Grandmother of David Buongirno and his wife Julianna. Great-Grandmother of David, Joseph, D.J. and Rebekah. Also survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends with whom she shared many loving memories. She was predeceased by her brother Elario “Larry” Gherardi, and her son-in-law John Buongirno. Her family wishes to thank the staff of The Village at Mariners Point and Masonicare for the wonderful care she received.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Saturday morning at 10:00. Family and friends may call from 8:00 to 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.
